Holiday Travel

Packing can be super tricky and packing light can be even harder. One time I was 2 pounds over the bag weight limit when I was flying home from college. I had to take out a couple shirts and throw them in my purse so I didn't have to pay the ridiculous price for my bagging being a little on the husky side. Major over packer problems. Since then I've matured and I'm much more strategic about what I pack.  Here are some tips to help you not overflow.

When deciding what to pack, first think about what kinds of activities you'll be doing on you holiday. Festive parties, lunch with old friends, shopping or lounging around. The worst thing in my opinion is to not have the right clothes when you're away from home. .

After I've thought about my holiday plans I then pick my favorite go-tos. These are usually a favorite dress or sweater that is festive for Christmas. Once I've picked out those items, I add a few colorful things or neutral items depending on which one I'm lacking. When trying to pack light it's important to make sure your clothes have a flow and that multiple items can go with each other. Here are some outfits I've put together for my upcoming trips.

Here's what's in my holiday carry-on! Specific outfits and details on where to find these items below!

Perfect for a kid friendly holiday party! Outfit details: green sweater here, plaid button up here, light jeans here, red heels here, jewel necklace here.

Shopping and brunch! Again love doing a whole outfit in one color and I'm always in love with forest green this time of year :) Outfit details: green sweater here, green skirt here, scarf here, brown ankle boots here.

Dinner date. Outfit details: buffalo plaid dress here, black distressed jeans here, clutch here, brown ankle boots here.

Last minute errands! Outfit details: cream sweater here, light jeans here, colorblock scarf here, brown ankle boots here.

A night out on the town! Outfit details: cream sweater here, black distressed jeans here, red heels here, clutch here.

Now when it comes to packing there are a couple tricks to saving space.

1. Wear you bulkiest clothes & layer! Sweaters and boots can take up a lot of space so wear your super comfy and thick sweater as well as your boots {if you're packing any}.

2. Roll socks into balls and put them in your shoes. I also always put my shoes in a separate bag so they don't stink up the rest of my clothes.

3. Pack your jewelry in a clutch or second purse that you're bringing.

4. Pack your shoes on the same side as the wheels so when your suitcase is upright your shoes will be on the bottom. This way they don't crush your other clothes since they are generally the heaviest thing in your suitcase. Same goes for anything you might be traveling with that's heavy.

5. Bringing any breakables? Make sure they are packed securely in the corners of your suitcase. Generally the corners had an extra plastic or hard material for protection. By putting your breakables in the corners they also get this extra protection.

Hopefully some of these tips will help you make holiday packing a breeze! Safe travels to everyone and happy holidays!

Cheers!
