A Simple Outfit to Start 2017
This first week back has been a doozy. I had a bunch of time off from work which I'm very grateful for. However, I feel like I needed more! My brain still feels a little hazy. That's why I decided to keep my first look fairly simple with the basic button up, cardigan, skinny jean combo.
To me what really elevates this outfit is the blend of masculine and easy details. They’re very subtle but add just a touch of character so the overall look is not too boring. Masculine elements formed by texture as well as the garments themselves including the button up with the high button neck and sleek loafers. The sweater provides the main point of contrast with its oversized softened texture. But at the same time complements the extra long length of the button up. Finally a feminine bag that is classic and a statement necklace to create a focal point so the whole ensemble doesn't blur together.
MADEWELL BACKSTAGE CARDIGAN - I've been getting a ton of questions about how I like my cardigan from Madewell. The reviews online are very mixed and I thought I'd share my own opinion here.
1. Material: The material is extremely soft and cozy. It’s also a little thicker than a normal cardigan which I like. It adds an extra umph of cozy. However, it pils. It really pills. Overall it doesn't bother me too much since the sweater already has a fuzzy texture. When it does start to bother me I just use a cheap razor to gently shave off the bad pills.
2. Size: My favorite thing about this cardigan though are the sleeves. They are extra long and almost cover my hands! I realize this could be a quality that would deter someone from buying but I love it. The length is also perfect. I’m wearing a size small and the length comes down just a little above my knees. It elongates my frame and would just as nice with a mini dress as with jeans.
3. Overall Thoughts: I do love this sweater despite the pilling. I am even debating if I should add the tan color to my wardrobe at some point!
