VALENTINE'S DAY OUTFIT

I have mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. It has never really been a holiday that I've paid much attention too. My birthday is four days before so that might be why. But this year we will be in Paris so I think it will be a hard holiday to ignore in the city of love :)

This year I decided to try my hand at an appropriate date night outfit. This outfit may not seem practical for a Chicago winter but I do love it. This dress is one of my favorites. I purchased it last year and it is currently the only "dressy" dress that I have in my closet that I regularly wear. I even wore this beauty for New Year's Eve!

One thing that you may have noticed is that this was not in my winter capsule. Something that I've decided to do as I try to build up my dress collection is that I want to have a teeny tiny capsule of fancier dresses that I can wear to any nice events including weddings, fancy date nights and parties. I think it's worth investing in some nicer dresses to have on hand so you're not scrambling last minute for something to wear! We'll see how this goes but that is the plan!

BURGUNDY - this has become one of my favorite colors. Years ago my normal formal attire consisted of black or navy. But by adding burgundy my fancy occasion wear feels refreshing and still "high-end" enough to wear for an upscale event.

LACE - I'm secretly very found of lace. My every day wear tends to be more simple silhouettes with a touch of masculine so lace does seem like it's out of left field. But for my style a touch of lace is all I need to balance out my more basic ensembles.

DRESS SILHOUETTE - as you may or may not know I'm on a dress hunt. I want to build up my "sophisticated occasion" mini capsule as well as my every day dress wear. I'm trying to find my perfect silhouette by paying attention to the styles I enjoy as well as what is right for my body type. So far I'm really enjoying this in between A line and shift dress. It's a rare combination but I feel that it highlights my waist while leaving enough room for my hips to breath. I'll be looking for more dresses with similar silhouettes but I'm also on the look out for others that might fit my needs.

outfit: madewell lace dress (old, similar here) / burgundy heels (old, love these) / madewell sweater coat (size: small) / cambridge satchel

Cheers!
