New year, new closet! Not really, but at the beginning of the year I like to reevaluate my basics and see if any of them are worn and need to be replaced. I like to have one white version and one black version of my favorite things. Ying and yang. White and black you can’t go wrong.

One of my favorite places to go for basics is Everlane. I love Everlane for multiple reasons but first of all their motto is “radical transparency.” Awesome. They tell you about the factories that produce their clothes, the cost of the materials and labor to make their clothes AND even show you their markup (which you can bet is much lower that other retailers). Everlane is part of the trend that many new companies are following. Which is becoming more accountable and being more transparent with the workings of their business. Finally the consumers who ask “where did this come from?”, “how was it made?”, “what is in my food and why are there super long words in the ingredients that no one knows or can say except for maybe a food scientist?” can get those questions answered {at least at some places}. Don’t get me wrong. There are many brands that I love that don’t have this business model and I’m obsessed with Fruit Loops and their sugary goodness that I can’t pronounce. But it is a breath of fresh air knowing that if I need a basic, I can go to the radically transparent Everlane.

Secondly, their customer service is the bomb. My first purchases from Everlane were The Ryan Tank here and The Ryan Muscle Tank here. While I was happy with them the material wasn’t quite as soft as I was imagining. A few days after I got my order, a customer management person contacted me asking how I liked my purchases. I told them that I liked my tops but thought they’d be a little softer fabric. They then wrote me back with several options for similar styles but different fabrics and gave me a free shipping code. The email was genuine and personal which I greatly appreciated.

Here are some black and white basics from Everlane that I recommend everyone have in their closet along with some color {or lack there of} inspiration.

V-neck – Always a good staple to have. Throw one on to lounge around the house, wear as an undershirt or even dress up for a laid back night out. If you’re sick of the v neck I love the drop-shoulder tee. The Women’s V here, The Cotton Drop-Shoulder Tee here

Tank – or in my case a muscle tank. I like how muscle tanks feel more masculine and it’s an upgrade in my opinion from the traditional spaghetti or tank top. The Ryan Muscle Tank here, The Cotton Tank here

Dress pant – I love the look of styling down dress pants. This is one of those staples I need to update. Also thinking of experimenting with culottes. They’re a wonderful upgrade from normal slacks. The Culottes here, The Slim Trouser here

Button up – my last favorite. Throw on a button up, raw hem jeans {new obsession} and heels and you have a polished casual outfit that is timeless. The Poplin Long-Sleeve here

Hope you enjoyed and have a great weekend 🙂
