Michigan Packing

April 6, 2016 2 Comments

River and I did another short weekend trip this past weekend. Our destination was East Lansing, Michigan which is where River’s family lives. As always, I checked the weather and just like the Midwest it was freezing one day and mild (low 50s, spring!) the next.

Normally for weekend trips River and I each pack a carry on. But this weekend we didn’t. So I had half a carry on. For those super over packers out there this would have been a nightmare. But we knew we would be taking several wedding decorations – yay! – and other things back with us so we wanted to save room. This meant outfit coordination overdrive! I also made sure to wear my bulkier items in the car to save room.

So as always when I travel I went comfy but still put together. I purchased a pair of black jogger pants from Aritzia a few months back and they are now my honorary travel buddy. Sooo soft, with pockets and a high waist which promotes them to fancy joggers in my opinion. Next was a stripe Tshirt (always), a nicer lightweight blouse for dinner, basic white vneck – travel and sleep shirt, for my mom reading this she probably just cringed but yes, to save space I will wear my sleep shirt on my way home from my travels. Sorry, mom 🙂 a pair of dark high waist jeans and medium wash jeans and my trusty ole cream cardigan. I only brought my brown ankle boots as my shoe option and a scarf just in case I needed a little extra warmth.

I ended up not wearing the high waist jeans on my trip. We went out to lunch soon after we arrived and I just kept my fancy joggers on! In hindsight, I would rather have an extra pair of pants and not use them than have an emergency and need them. If I’m going to slightly overpack I think bottoms are an ok item to go a little more on – especially when the weather is anticipated to swing drastically.

Below is my list as well as some ethically made options 🙂

Tops: crop stripe (old, similar style) / white vneck (ethically made option) / white blouse (old, similar style) / cream cardigan (old, similar style, ethically made option) / jean jacket (old, similar style, vintage love)

Bottoms: black joggers (ethically made option) / medium wash jeans / dark high waist jeans

Shoes: dolce vita boots

Accessories: the horse watch / paisley scarf

Love all four ensembles, cozy and pulled together at the same time. Perfect for a weekend in Michigan!
