Summer ’16 Capsule

June 21, 2016 4 Comments

I was a little all over the place with my third capsule. I couldn’t pin down a specific color scheme. One thing I did know is that I wanted to break away from always wearing black for an evening outfit. Black is such an easy color to work with which makes it an easy fall back option. So instead of caving in to my black wear ways I decided to try more muted jewel tones including dark green and rust. I’m also throwing in some navy which may be a cop out but is such an easy alternative to black. And it looks great on all skin tones!

This is why my closet may look a little jumbled but I wanted to pick one area to challenge myself & get away from my norm. I have five main pieces that diverge from my usual black (which will still make a tiny appearance in my closet).

First is a beautiful set from First Rite. I have been wanting a matching crop and skirt for a long time now and I finally pulled the trigger when I found this set on sale – post to come specifically about this outfit soon 🙂

Next is a midi skirt I actually purchased last winter and a similar shade tank – these were not meant to be a set but they work so well together! The material of the midi skirt is a good balance making it not too hot so I figure I’d try it as a year round item. In the picture they look more navy but I promise they’re a lovely emerald green color!

Finally is my navy component in the Elizabeth Suzann Georgia dress in linen. This dress has made me fall head-over-heels in love with linen. It’s sturdy yet soft and drapes so well. Ever since I received it I’ve wanted to wear it all day every day.

These are the main items that I’m focusing on in this capsule along with my neutrals.

The final capsule ended up with the following items:

9 tops

10 bottoms

3 dresses

7 shoes

29 items total not including swimsuits, workout gear, pajamas or tees. I’m leaving room for about 5-6 items just in case I need a little wiggle room.

navy sleeveless blouse / flower crop tank (old, similar colors here / cream crop tankwhite crop blouse / denim courier shirt / lace crop blouse / green muscle tank / ornamental courier shirt (second hand, found on poshmark) / rust crop top

green midi skirt / rust midi skirt / white crop jeans (made in USA version) / raw hem skinny jeans (sold out, similar here) / high waist dark grey shorts (old, similar here) / jean shorts / light flares / dark flares / dark high waist skinny jeans / white shorts

pattern dress (no longer available from Madewell) / navy dress / heart pattern dress (old from Zara)

black heel sandals / black flat sandals (old, similar ethically made version here) / birkenstocksnude sandal clogs (missing from this collage) /  white sneakers (made sustainably) / white flats (old, ethically made version here)

Follow me on Instagram for daily photos of my capsule outfits! And of course I’ll share my favorites in this space as well 🙂

If anyone else is currently in their summer capsule I’d love to hear how it’s going!

I love it! My Summer capsule was tricky to nail down as well. I’m more attracted to brighter colors during the summer than any other time, so I had a hard time creating a good flow for it all. Your wardrobe turned out great though! I hope to have mine posted within the week- it’s so fun seeing other people’s capsules. <3

Hi Olivia!Thank you, and thank you for visiting my blog! I definitely find it trickier to work with colors in a capsule but I’ve seen some beautiful ones! It is so fun seeing other peoples’ capsules and their process for creating and living with one. Also love seeing other bloggers explore sustainable fashion 🙂
