Fabric & Textures

I wish I could share the feel and texture of this top and skirt. The top is made of a hemp twill which gives it structure and shape at the same time as softness and breath-ability. It is quickly becoming a staple in my closet.

Now for the skirt. It is a blend of linen (a natural fiber) and rayon (a manufactured fiber derived from cellulose). It is surprisingly light and airy for its demeanor. And the rich rust color acts as a beautiful contrast against bright neutrals – which I have plenty of.

I’m so tempted to wear both of these every day! Since moving towards more natural and sustainably made clothing, I’ve started to become more attuned to how my clothes feel. Maybe it’s part of becoming older but I just want clothes to feel comfortable as well as fashionable.

I’ve always been into texture so it’s really no giant surprise that I’d be more sensitive to fabrics but natural fibers – when treated and created correctly – really feel like nothing else.

Off topic now, but I know many people struggle with the price tag on sustainably made pieces. It’s totally to be expected. It is a hard transition to move from quantity to quality. One of the tricks I’ve done is budgeting and selling clothes/accessories I know longer wear. Soon I’ll share a post on all of the consignment sites/places I’ve tried and my tricks for being able to afford the wardrobe you really want!

Outfit: petra top from Elizabeth Suzann (made sustainably in the US)/ rust midi skirt from First Rite (made from sustainable materials) / black sandals from Madewell / Opelle x Style Bee tam-tam handbag from Opelle (made sustainably) / campana necklace by Tiro Tiro (handmade)
