WINTER 10×10 – Look 1

January 18, 2017 2 Comments

So in my opinion I’m starting this challenge off on a very good note! I feel great in this outfit and I’d call it a layering win in my book! Before this winter season, I haven’t worn a base layer turtleneck since I was probably in grade school – sad I know. But since everyone is wearing them just about under everything I thought I’d give them a go.

I can officially say this is now my favorite way to layer! This look nails comfort and warmth. I think the only thing that would make it better is if I were wearing leggings instead of skinny jeans! But I need to keep things work appropriate here so the skinnies will have to stay 🙂

Some more detailed thoughts on this look below!

STRIPES – I love how the stripes break up this otherwise dark color block outfit. When first planning out my 10×10 I almost put my light grey turtleneck in rotation. Instead I opted for the stripes to add a little pattern into the mix.

URBAN LOOK, COZY FEEL – to me this look appears more buttoned up than it actually feels. The turtleneck is super soft and cozy and something about layering just makes me feel bundled and obviously warm. But the look is very put together with more form fitting shapes that are restricting. Then the chelsea boots add a bit of street style and are the perfect shoe for running errands around the city.

LAYERS – The black crane shirt is slightly oversized but still in balance with the skinny jeans so the proportions don’t look off. Sometimes oversized tops can look a little off set by a super tight bottom but this is just the right proportion and leaves enough room for a base layer. I hate it when your clothes get super bunched up because your base layer isn’t form fitting enough or your top layer doesn’t have enough room for a base layer! My solution is to find pieces like these. A cozy base layer that is form fitting without feeling restricting and a slight oversized top. Works like a charm!

TEXTURE – I’ve started to pay more attention to handbags and how they can add an extra textural element to a look. The sheep’s wool on this bag is a bright focal point for the outfit and gives it an even cozier vibe.

outfit: black crane square top (size: small) similar in gold / gap stripe turtleneck (size: small) / joe’s high waist jeans (size: 27) / everlane brixton boots (size: 7.5) / primecut handbag (custom made)

Stay tuned for more 10×10 outfits coming soon!
