Half way through the challenge! Already I’ve started to feel more in tune with my style. It’s starting to become easier to pick out what feels like me and what doesn’t. It’s odd how it has been a little over a year and I’m just now starting to recognize what is my style and what isn’t. This challenge definitely helps develop that style sense.
I really like both of these looks but they are very different. The one on the right is more sleek and modern while the other is more casual. It’s almost like the left has more of a work/business meeting vibe while the one on the right is more weekend market ready.
OUTFIT SCORE: 8
I’m only giving this an 8 because my T sweater is a kind of bunched up under this cardigan due to its’ drop sleeves. It is also a little on the crop side and I could have used a tank underneath it since these jeans are not high waisted and I was afraid my midriff was going to show! But other than that I really enjoy this look.
SUBTLE COLORS – majority of my closet is neutral but I love throwing in a little color through accessories. I especially love the olive in these flats mixed with the oxblood of the bag. Since green and red are complimentary colors they work very well together but aren’t so obvious that it makes the combination feel like Christmas 🙂
BOYFRIEND JEANS – every once in a while I like to take a break from my skinny jeans. I used to hate boyfriend jeans or anything that was too baggy but now I welcome the different silhouette. They are comfy and casual and flatter my slightly pair shaped frame. I have a lighter pair that are just a tad too small but I’m hoping with just a little more gym time I’ll be able to slip those babies on!
LIGHTER HUES – most of my looks have been more on the dark side. Actually my looks are either very dark or very light. This one just happens to be on the lighter side and I think would make for a nice spring outfit. I’m sensing a move towards a lighter palette in the spring. I may even eliminate black as a color option entirely for spring! Big step. I’m loving blush tones and lighter hues but black is normally my go to. Clearly I have some things to think about when it comes to overall wardrobe palette 🙂
OUTFIT SCORE: 10
So I know most of my outfits have been 10s but I really do love them! This outfit is almost the same as my number 4 look…but I just love the silhouette so much! I can’t think of one thing that I don’t like about this outfit. It checks all of my boxes: comfortable, clean & sleek.
WHITE BUTTON UP – it’s funny I used to only see a white button up as just a button up shirt that can be worn under sweaters or on its’ own. Never really as a make shift cardigan. I haven’t worn an open button up in a long time. I would normally wear a button up open over a v neck t-shirt. I used to think it was super boring. So this is kind of a refresh of that same idea. A tucked in turtle and high waist jeans. In my mind a little more modern way to wear an open button up.
SHINY ACCESSORIES – I love how the shine of the tote bag compliments the shimmer of the boots. Both of these items aren’t naturally shiny but have just enough to make them pop from the other neutral/flat colors. The tote also gives off more of a work vibe.
