Happy Thursday! Today I’m super excited to style and share a beautifully made backpack from Margaret Hennessey.

I was so happy when Margaret reached out about working together on a collaboration. I love finding brands that are starting to make their way in the slow fashion industry. It’s such a joy to watch them grow and succeed! While this post is sponsored I strive to only work with brands and products that I would have purchased on my own and Margaret’s bags definitely fall into that category! Below I share a little spotlight on why this backpack has honestly become one of my favorite bags, some style notes on this outfit and all of the outfit details. So lets jump in!

Item Spotlight

I’ve been using this bag for a little over two weeks and I seriously love it. I can fit my wallet, keys, phone, book, mini ipad, portable charger and a small cosmetics bag in it! The leather is sturdy yet soft and I can tell it’s only going to get better with time. I love it’s minimalistic design and it fits in so well with my closet. Below are some more details that make this backpack seriously awesome. Margaret has put an incredible amount of thought into its’ design and it truly shows.

| KEY STRAP | This is my absolute favorite thing about this backpack. The key strap is extra extra long. It makes finding my keys so easy and I don’t have to unhook them to open my door. I can leave them attached and put them right back into my bag! I never knew how much I needed a long strap in my large bags until this backpack.

| EASY ACCESS ZIPPER | This is my second favorite feature of this bag. Opening and closing a cinched bag can be a little annoying at times but having this easy access zipper has been a dream. I can still keep the backpack on and easily grab things out of the bag. This has made it especially easy to quickly access my wallet! Such a brilliant idea.

| ZIPPER POCKET | There is also a zipper pocket inside the bag on the same side as the knotted closure. Having the pocket on the far side of the bag instead of on the side that is right up against you is so convenient. It’s something you really don’t think about until you need to access something in a hurry! It’s a super simple detail that can easily be overlooked but when a designer puts thought into these tiny details it adds so much more value to the piece.

| ADJUSTABLE STRAPS | The straps have four adjustment holes so you can customize the length to whatever suits you. It also has a little hook strap (like you see on a watch band) to keep the excess strap in place so they aren’t flying around or curving. I hate it when leather straps curl! There is also a second peg to secure the strap in two places instead of just one which helps make the straps even more sturdy. Details guys! This bags got’em.

Style Notes

| COLOR BLOCK | This outfit follows my color block formula to a T. White + cognac + black accents. I was super happy to find a pant in a rich cognac color for fall. To me, it makes the color blocking so much more interesting. If there’s a color that you’re loving in your closet, and you’ll know you’ll love it for a long time, I encourage you to try to find a pant in that color! It makes it so much fun to play around with.

| BLACK ACCENTS | My oldest trick in the book but it’s so classic that it never gets old. I like how the black accents frame up this look with the shoes being the bottom, backpack the middle and sunglasses at the top. It keeps things balanced which I always like.

| DROP PANTS | I can’t think of a time when I’ve owned a drop crotch pant. I guess it would be sweat pants but I don’t think that really counts. I think normally this style would look to sloppy for me but these pants are made out of a thick cotton twill which gives them structure. Of course I love the high waist crop look but not sure if I’m completely in love with them. They may need a little adjustment in the thigh area but I will say I’m definitely going to hold onto them and keep working with them! They’re just too cool to let go of!

| LOAFERS INSTEAD OF HEELS | At first I wanted to pair my black day heels with this look but then opted for a flat to keep it more casual. The loafers are still a dressy shoe but don’t fanc-ify the look too much. This show is also more realistic for walking around and exploring Portland!

That backpack is super gorgeous! I’m on the hunt for a minimal leather backpack for work – do you think this would fit an 11" Macbook?
Unrelated – I just read your measurements and am happy to find a near-body double. I often feel like my waist-to-hip ratio isn’t common (or represented) so I’m excited I found your blog!

      Hi Krystal!
Unfortunately it won’t fit a laptop due to the cinching 🙁 I’ve actually been weighting whether I need to bring my laptop to certain meetings or not so that I can bring this bag, haha! Seriously true story. I believe that Margaret is working on a backpack that will hold a laptop though! Not sure when it will be available but I’m probably going to get one when it’s available.
Ah so happy that I can help you with measurements! I agree the ratio isn’t often seen but is totally awesome & beautiful in my obviously unbiased opinion 😉
Thank you so much for stopping by!
      xo Allison

Do you feel this style could work as a shoulder or cross body bag too? Looking for a bag I could use as all 3…
