2018 WINTER 10×10: OUTFITS 1 & 2

January 24, 2018 1 Comment

We are well underway in the Winter 10×10 Challenge! Most are already halfway to the finish line while I’m just on outfit three 🙂 I’m loving what I’m seeing in the #10x10friends hashtag and can’t believe how many people have joined in this go around! If you haven’t started don’t worry you still can! You can really do this challenge any time because what matters is what works for you and your schedule. So if you haven’t tried it out I encourage you to go ahead and pick your 10 items and start brainstorming outfits! I’m sharing my thoughts on my first two looks as well some style notes and outfit details so let’s get started!

Outfit One

Style Notes

For this look I started with my cream blouse then went piece by piece to try my first stab at creating a dressy/casual vibe. Each element has a specific purpose and intention behind it. I normally don’t put this much thought into my outfits but I’m hoping by putting a little more thought into my style it will come more naturally.

| DRESSY BASE | The basic components of this outfit are definitely more on the dressy side. First the silk cream blouse which is probably one of the most basic elements that you can add to a capsule. The second are the wide leg linen pants. While linen is not normally known for being a sophisticated material, the fact that these are black and the shape add a glamorous bold feel to the pant. By pairing them with the silk blouse it elevates them even more. I could easily transition this outfit by switching out my shoes to a heeled boot or pump and adding a long peacoat.

| CASUAL ELEMENTS | Since I wanted this look to appear more casual I chose to dress it down a bit by playing with accessories and layering. If you’re looking to dress a piece down first consider your footwear. My converse were an obvious choice to make this look more relaxed. I also love a good fancy outfit + casual sneaker clash. Next was the bag. My normal vintage coach handbag would have leaned a little too put together for my taste so I opted for my fanny pack. Finally I topped the look with my cozy long cardigan to A. give it some warmth and B. add to the casual elements. If you’re also looking to create a similar contrast in your outfits I suggest starting with a base that is either casual or refined and then play with additional layers or accessories to create balance.

| LENGTHENING | I loving the proportions on this look. The cardigan and wide leg pants add length while the tucked in blouse creates a very distinct waist line. It’s clean and minimal which helps let the other elements of the look (like the earrings and fanny pack) shiny. I’m loving this silhouette so much that I’m eager to look for other was to recreate it in my closet.

| LIGHT STATEMENT EARRINGS | These earrings are seriously the coolest. Just like the rest of this look, they also have a balance that is subtle & beautiful. Their unique shape undoubtedly makes them a statement piece but at the same time they are light and airy. When I think of statement earrings I usually go for bold metal pieces but these are a lovely alternative. They add a fun element to this outfit without causing too much distraction.

| OUT & ABOUT | Since I’m normally working from home I want to share where I would also wear my outfits out & about so if you’re looking to create similar looks you can also invision where/how you would wear them! For this look I could see myself wearing this to go window shopping around town or even out on a lunch date with River or friends.

Outfit Two

Style Notes

Another dress outfit that I love! Even though this outfit has tights and heels it was super comfortable for all day wear. The main contributor to the high comfort factor is this dress. It’s really kind of the underdog in this look since the duster and scarf are the main focal points. The dress is made out of 92% modal and 8% spandex which feels super soft. There is also a decent amount of room and flow to this piece so you never feel constricted.

| BLACK BASE | Once again for this look I started with planning out my base. In this case I kept it solid black to let the denim duster and scarf shine through. The outfits itself is pretty basic, jersey dress, tights and black mules but the pops of color are what help get it more dimension.

| DENIM POP| I haven’t worn a ton of denim in my wardrobe in the past couple of months but I wanted to play around with this duster since it is such a cool piece. I love the combination of camel, denim and black in this look. It’s rich yet still feels closer to the neutral spectrum than a vibrant color outfit.

| OVERSIZED | The top half of this look is extremely oversized. To keep the look from feeling overall to heavy or bulky I kept the lower half very sleek and minimal with tights and heeled mules. At first I paired my converse with this look but it felt a little too grunge for my taste. So I swapped the converse for mules and love the new balance.

| MINIMAL ACCESSORIES | Since the duster and scarf are the main focal points to this look I wanted my accessories to be very simple. Que a black beanie, structured minimal backpack and small hoop earrings.

| OUT & ABOUT | I actually wore this outfit when I helped out at The Yo! Store yesterday. The heels are a very manageable height and I felt put together but still comfortable enough to be on my feet all day. This outfit was so cozy that I even kept it on to relax and watch tv in when my day was done!

I love your styling of these two looks. The bum bag (fanny pack) is excellent and I’m totally stealing your denim duster styling for my Kowtow jacket. I’m in New Zealand in peak summer so am itching for the weather to cool down so I can wear it.
