Once again we’ve come to another transition season. Transitions are always the hardest. They play havoc with your wardrobe [snow boots one day, sandals the next] as well as your emotions. My general mindset is to hurry through March, April, May to arrive at summer. Spring has never been my favorite season and if I could have it my way Spring would last exactly a month while summer would take two, fall six and winter the remaining. But since Mother Nature and I aren’t on the same page I’m looking at the upsides of spring. I’ve vowed to embrace and savor the spring transition this year and to take it for what it’s worth instead of rushing through.
To keep things a little more simplified I’m cutting back in the pieces in my capsule this season. Winter got a little out of control because I didn’t know exactly what to expect from Portland. This go around I want to go back to a slimmer base and if I need to adjust at some point, so be it. This spring I’m all about simplicity so I’m of course starting with my wardrobe. Below are the pieces I’m including as well as considerations for this capsule. I’m also sharing the pieces I’m including in my Spring 10×10 and why so let’s dive in!
Number of Items: 36
Color Theme – I’m sticking with the core of my color scheme, neutrals. However I’m trying to limit the amount of black that is in my wardrobe and keep it more for accents and accessories.
Weather – I don’t exactly know what to expect but I can assume there will be a decent amount of rain and the temperatures will probably hover between the 40s & 60s. I’m dying to wear sandals and open toe shoes but I’m not convinced the weather will cooperate. I’m trying to further practice being realistic about my seasonal wardrobes instead of curating the wardrobe I want to wear.
Activities – This will be my first spring in Portland! I’m extremely excited to see how the forests and gardens change as the weather changes. I’m looking forward to exploring the rose and Japanesse gardens, going for urban walks around the city, weekend adventures and patio weather!

Quick recap if you aren’t sure what a 10×10 is. It was created by the lovely Lee from Style Bee and is where you pick 10 items from your closet, create 10 looks with those items and wear those looks for the next 10 days to give them a test run. It’s a great way to fall back in love with the clothes you have and discover just how versatile they are. My favorite part is coming up with new outfit combinations I might not have otherwise thought of 🙂 Lee normally hosts this event every season with the equally wonderful Caroline from Un-fancy but this go around one of my absolute favorite designers is joining in…ELIZABETH SUZANN! Her garments are the first ethical pieces I purchased back in 2016 and I have been a huge fan and admirer of hers ever since.
The ladies are also hosting a giveaway where 10 lucky ladies will receive a $100 gift card to ES along with three of their favorite books. It’s just OH SO EXCITING!
Here are several things I like to consider before picking my items:
1. Weather – In Portland, temps will be fluctuating with a high of about mid 60s during the day and mid to upper 40s at night. I can count on some rain but looks like mostly clouds and a little sun.
2. Activities – I don’t have much planned but can expect drinks/dinner with friends, coffee dates and going for long walks around Portland
And now here are my items!
1 | silk short sleeve shirt | everlane | size: 4 | made responsibly in Hangzhou, China | this color is currently sold out
This is the only pop of color in my current capsule and was actually one of the colors at my wedding 🙂 I wanted one slightly dressier element to play around with and I’m just seriously obsessed with this color when paired with warm neutrals.
2 | black crew neck tee | everlane | size: small | made responsibly in LA
This piece is actually from a small set of basics that I always wear year round. This was one of the last items I added to my 10×10. After assembling most of my pieces, I realized I wanted to add a super simple basic element that would be comfortable and easy to layer!
Even though I already have a button up in my 10×10 I couldn’t resist adding this white one. It is such a versatile and classic garment. I went with a short sleeve button up since the temps are fluctuating between 50-60s and sometimes I get too hot when I layer long sleeves under cardigans/coats in this type of weather.
4 | crop cardigan | everlane | size: small | responsibly made in Dongguan, China
This cardigan was in my fall 10×10 as well. Once again I wanted a layering element that would allow me to highlight all of my favorite high waist pants 🙂 I also love the long cuff details on this one. It is also just the right amount of weight to not be too warm but still cozy when the temperatures drop.
This is probably no surprise. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had these pants in my 10×10. They are my favorite pants so they were an obvious choice for the spring challenge. I am trying to lighten up my closet this spring but I couldn’t leave these guys out! I think my next Elizabeth Suzann purchase will either be the ivory or flax version of these.
6 | linen tilda pants* | elizabeth suzann | size: small regular | made responsibly in nashville, TN | this style is discontinued but linked to similar version | similar ethical version | similar under $75
Another linen pant from ES. I’ve already been wearing these a bunch this season and I couldn’t go 10 days without them. I love the slimming silhouette but they aren’t constricting at all.
7 | belle skirt | elizabeth suzann | size: small | made responsibly in nashville, TN
This piece was in my past summer 10×10 but I want to try and play around with styling it in a transition season. I love the rich tone and the contrast it creates with the warm neutrals in my wardrobe. It is also another fancy piece that I can play around with to create my favorite contrasts, dressy & casual.
8 | clyde trench coat | elizabeth suzann | size: small | responsibly made in nashville, TN
I’ve been obsessed with this coat ever since I got it. It was purchased via several gift cards between Christmas and my birthday. I love the bold cream color and even though the material is stiff it has a beautiful weight and is already softening so beautifully.
9 | modern babo | c/o everlane | size: 7 | responsibly made in Brescia, Italy
My current favorite shoes. I was amazed by how comfortable they were right out of the box. I also love that they can transform into a completely different style. Love having a versatile shoe in my 10×10!
10 | white sneakers | veja | size: 38 | responsibly made in Brazil
These guys are in all of my capsules every year. They are starting to loose their cushion but adding a little insole cushion makes them good as new.
