summer wishlist

May 12, 2020 2 Comments

I’ve started slowly getting out my summer clothes as the temperatures warm up and I’ve been feeling like shifting my style just a bit. Sometimes you’ll find that pieces in your wardrobe no longer serve you and that’s ok. Things change. Bodies change style preference changes. Just because you are striving for a minimal wardrobe doesn’t mean you will never add or remove pieces from it. Realizing that has helped me be a little more forgiving of myself when it comes to my wardrobe. Yes, I will always strive for quality over quantity but it will to some degree be a fluid closet and that’s ok.

So for today’s post, I wanted to share those pieces that I’m particularly craving this summer! I love creating lists and like many people, I have an ongoing list of pieces that I’m drawn too. That never means I’ll buy them all but it is very helpful when I do want to add something to my closet because I can see what other pieces I’ve been eyeing to determine if it is truly worth it or if there is something else that I love just a little bit more. So lets dive in!

Huggie Earrings

I have been wearing the same stud earrings all the time and never really change it up but I feel that it’s finally time. I’ve been very drawn to huggie earrings and especially wearing two huggie earrings at once. I’ve been loving the huggies earring selection at AUrate. I particularly have my eye on their wide huggie earrings (image 2) and the gold twist earrings. The look I’d like to create is something like the first or third image. The fourth may be a little to jazzed up for me but I’m still loving the mix of huggies! I also love being a little more playful in summer so I think an updated earring party would be a great way to accomplish that 🙂

Christy dawn dresses

This time of year I always crave patterns and more color. The hard part is that I naturally like neutral colors and will always like neutrals while my taste for color constantly changes. This makes things a little tricky because even though my closet is fluid, I don’t want to buy anything that I will wear for one season and then not like it the next year. With that being said, I know that sticking to floral patterns in some neutral tones or colors that I come back to time and time again are a safe bet. For me right now that’s camels, shades of green and yellow. For this summer I’m specifically looking to add a Christy Dawn dress to my closet. I have loved Christy Dawn’s dresses for years but have never invested in one and I think now might be the time!

light denim

Let’s be honest, I’m not really wearing a whole lot of denim these days but I do love light denim with my current summer wardrobe. I’ve mentioned it before how some years I’m all about the blue while others not so much. But I feel safe investing in a pair of light denim because it is something that I know will be back in rotation at some point in the future.

I have such a hard time when it comes to shoes. It is the one area of my closet that is super hard for me to keep minimal. I just think that shoes can influence an outfits’ feel and style so easily that I like to have a lot of options. I keep doing passes through my shoe wardrobe and try to dwindle it down but at the end of the day, if I wear all of the shoes in my closet then I call that a win. With that being said, I am taking a specific audit of my sandals. I’d like to add a few more utility pieces as well as a classic black slide sandal. I looooove the Isla by Nisolo so that will probably be my pick and for utility I’m trying to decide between Tevas or Birkenstocks. I have a super old pair of Birks that I love but would really like to add one of the above shoes to my collection for a little more sophisticated modern look but still super functional.

I hope you enjoyed this little roundup post! i’m also constantly curating a closet wishlist on pinterest if you’d like to follow along there for more inspiration. if you have any specific items on your wishlist i’d love to hear in the comments below 🙂

I have been thinking about getting my ears pierced again and seeing this post made me definitely want to as soon as I can so I can wear some of those earrings! I am going to have to share this with my friend she has been looking for some huggie earrings too.

I know what you mean about craving color and pattern in an otherwise neutral wardrobe! I was in that same dilemma but I came up with a trick that has worked super well for me to add prints but keep my closet cohesive- and it’s the print’s background! I have four main foundational colors for all four seasons and they are black, any warm shade of brown, any shade of white or ivory, and beige. As long as the background of the print is one of those four colors, I find it matches everything and doesn’t make my closet look super crazy with prints when I open it.
